LATE SPORTS.

SWIMMING. EAST ASHBTJRTON CARNIVAL. The committee of the East Ashburton Swimming Club met last evening, Mr A. Thompson presiding over a good attendance. The Memorial Hall Committee wrote in regard to side-shows at a bazaar to he held next month. It was decided that the members of the club take charge of them. It was decided to hold the first swimming carnival of the season on Saturday evening. The following officials were appointed :—Starter, Mr J. C. O. MeLachlan; check-starter, Mr E. Vincent; time-keepers, Messrs F. Curtis, and T. W. Hockings; judges, Messrs F. Curtis, senr., W. Keir and E. H. Childs; diving, Messrs J. McTigue and A. McCallum; Press steward, Mr A. Thompson. The programme will include the following :—l2-| yards race for beginners, one for girls and another for boys; 25 yards race, each for boys and girls: 25 yards ladies' race; 50 yards race (Curtis Cup) ; 30 yards inter-club race; 25 yards junior race; 100 yardsf relay race (ladies or men); 25 yards interclub breast-stroke race ; inter-club dive, and a novelty race. It was decided to enlist the services lof the Ashburton Silver Band to play I at the carnival.
