THE WEATHER.

GLOOMY CONDITIONS PREVAIL. After two days of ideal summer weather, the sky was.again overcast today. There was a cold wind from the south-west and a storm appeared to be travelling toward Ashburton from that quarter. The barometric reading at 9 o'clock this morning was 29.99 inches compared with 29.98 yesterday. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday) were 72 and 50 degrees respectively, compared with 68 and 48 on Monday.

OFFICIAL FORECAST. The following forecast was issued to-day:— Indications are for moderate to strong south-westerly winds. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather, isolated showers at first. There is a prospect of fair weather later. Barometer ihows little movement.
