LATE SPORTING.

COUNTY RACING CLUB. The Committee of the Ashburton County Racing Club met last evening, the chairman (Mr E. B. Newton) presided, and others present were: — Messrs H. Morris, J. T. Thomas, R. J. Mulligan, H. F. Nicoll, C. A. .Cuff, and J Findlay. The New Zealand Racing Conference advised that the Government 2i per cent, tax on gate receipts smd rights had been repealed. The Conference asked the (opinion of tiie Ashburton Club on the matter of broadcasting from racecourses. In the opinion ->f the Conference, it encouraged betting with bookmakers., jaaid lessened the attendance at ingsIt was decided to support the .Conference in this matter. Details of organisation, including stewards' duties for the meeting on Saturday, were discussed. Mr A. Bushell was elected a member of the Club.
