POLL DEFEATED.

FOR KERBING AND CHANNELLING WORK.

LITTLE INTEREST TAKEN. The poll to raise a loan of £SOOO to complete the channelling and kerbinig in the balance of the Old Borough, and also in the Hampstead and Netherby districts, held yesterday, was defeated by 132 votes to 223. The voting was very poor throughout the day ? only about 20 per cent, of those eligible voting. A total of 357 votes were cast out of 1694. Only two informal votes were recorded. The result was. announced at the Borough Council Chambers at 7.20, but onlyi six interested waited for the result. ,- The returns at the various booths were as follow: —
