STOPPED BY FLOODS.

MR E. REYNOLDS'S EXPERIENCE

AMONG THE GAME AT MOUNT

WHITE.

About a score of small creeks, swollen by sudden rain, prevented Mr E. Reynolds and a party of four from returning to their nomes on Monday after having indulged in game shooting in the wild country hear Mount White, 120 miles from Ashburton. Mr Reynolds, who went out shooting on Sunday morning by car, and whose failure' to reappear on Tuesday caused some anxiety to his friends, told a reporter this morning that he met a number of men bound on a like mission, and he joined forces with them. They took the main West Coast Road to a point about six miles past Cass, where they turned north into the wild country and came to a halt near Mount White, which is about 120 miles from here.

On the way they crossed about 20 small, but deep, creek-beds, easily fordable in dry weather, but heavy rain fell on Monday, and when they attempted to return they found the creeks were raging torrents impassable to motors. Their only recourse was to wait till the waters fell. Not till they were about to leave on Tuesday did they learn that -a telephone was handy. Hence the absence of news regarding the party. In that wild countrv they never suspected the presence of a tele** phone. In the meantime ;the party had plenty of food, for the vicinity swarmed with wild pigs (of which Mr Reynolds shot nine), deer, ducks, and geese.
