Mr D. Wood arrived in Ashburton from Cbristchurch by the first express train this morning.

Mr W. L. Barr, of Allenton, has been awarded the Sir George Grey Memorial Scholarship for science at the Otago University.

Mr J. 0. Boddy commenced duty this morning on the Ashburton Magistrate's Court staff. Prior to his appointment to Ashburton, Mr Boddy was for twelve months clerk of the Magistrate's Court and Mining Registrar at Lawrence.

Mr E. P. Hollands, general manager of the electric light department in Timaru, received word yesterday, from the Institution of Electrical Engineers, London, }hat he had been admitted as a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, so that he now ranks as M.I.E.E.
