THE SPORTS CARNIVAL.
SUCCESSFUL ENTERTAINMENTS.
MORE ACCOMMODATION NEEDED.
The entertainments conducted on Wednesday evenings by the combined Carnival committee of the Ashburton Defence and Miniature Rifle clubs and the Boxing Association have so fan proved most successful, according to a report presented to the committee last evening by the chairman. (Mr H. R. C. McElrea). The club rooms have been well attended, and the competitions heavily patronised. The principal matter discussed lasi evening, when there was an attendance of 23, was a proposal to enlarge the dancing floor, which has proved one of the main attractions. Mr F. Crum suggested that the rooms be enlarged by taking out one of the side walls and building a temporary structure on the vacant section adjoining.
It was stated that it would' Be cheaper to do this than to cover in the additional area by a marquee,, which would cost £3 IGs every time it was used.
After a short discussion this matte®, was referred to the building committee, with a proposal to purchase another? balls table.
It was reported that Mr C. • Andrews had promised the committee the free use of a piano for the term of the entertainments. The offer was accepted with thanks.
