SEVERAL CLASSES ADDED.

WIDESPREAD 'INTEREST SHOWN.

Inquiries are being freely made for, the syllabus of- the Ashburton Competitions Society’s second festival, which will commence on August 31, and several copies have been sent as far away as Wellington, strengthening tbei early prediction that this year’s effort! will be even more .successful than the first. The executive of the Society met} under the chairmanship of Mr T. MClark last evening, when it was decided to add several events to the dancing section. These will be operatic, barefoot, and character (two classes ip each), and operatic and character duos* An Irish reel has also been included* These additions will bring the total number of classes up to 86, an increase of 19 over those of last year. The judges will be as follow:—* Dancing, Miss Flora Shaw (Oamaru); music, Mr L. Watkins (Wellington); elocution, Mr S. H. Osborne (Dunedin). Mrs Gr. H. Donaldson, of Oamaru, will be the official accompaniste.
