SHIP'S OFFICER DROWNED. slip' FROM WHARF STEPS. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Mr Gordon Louis Ausenne, aged 34, second engineer of the cable steamer Iris, was drowned at Waipera on Sundayi. He was on a cruise in a launch with three other men, and attended a dance, leaving about 12.30 to board the launch. Mr Ausenne went down the steps to untie the painter, when he slipped and fell into the water, probably striking his head on the steps. When he was recovered life was extinct. ELDERLY MAN FOUND DEAD. AUCKLAND, This Day. The body of Mr David Murgatroyd, aged 63, was found on the edge of Lake Takapuna yesterday morning. He had been employed by the List Company, silk spinners, of Bradford for 50 years, and retired 12 months ago. He was visiting his daughter at Takapuna.
KILLED IN CAPSIZE OF MOTOR. AUCKLAND, February 13. Through the capsize of a car proceeding to Murawai Beach, Mr R. W. McLennan, of A, S. Paterson and Co., Auckland, was killed. Mr A. F Henry, of the Battery Supply Combpany, and Mr James D. Walsh, of Ponsonby, both suffered broken limbs and injuries to their backs. The car had to swerve to avoid a collision. MOTOR-CYCLIST INJURED. CHRISTCHUROH, This Day. In a collision between a motor-car and motor-cycle yesterday afternoon at the corner of Bealy Avenue and Manchester Street, Mr Ivan Taylor, a young man living at Ayers Street, Rangiora, received concussion of the braiiu and fractured his skull. He lies in a serious condition at the Christchurch Hospital. The motor-car was driven by Mr John W. Bristow, 170 Madras Street. BOTH WRISTS FRACTURED.
HAMILTON, February 13. Eric Victor Halberg, aged 16, had both wrists fractured in a cycling accident. He was cycling behind a 'bus, which stopped. Halberg failed to pull up in time, and dashed into the rear of the vehicle. CHINESE KILLED. AUCKLAND, Feb. 11. A Chinese named Sum Art, aged 40, was knocked down by a tramcar in Khyber Pass last night and killed. He was married, his wife residing in China. 1 He was a market gardener at Panmure. BOY KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR. AUCKLAND, Feb. 11. Jack McLeod, aged 6£ years, residing at 130 a, Great North Road 1 , was knocked down by a motor car while crossing the road, and had to have a big toe amputated. He also suffered from a broken leg and injuries to his head. He was unconscious when admitted to the hospital last night. His condition shows no improvement today.
