INFANT WELFARE.

INTEREST ON THE CONTINENT

(Per Press Association, Copyright.) •LONDON, June 15.

Mr and Mrs David 1 Nathan (Auckland) spent tlie winter in Paris and before coming to London—they are staying at the Curzon Hotel—they made an extended tour in Spain,' which they greatly enjoyed. They have left their children at Versailles. Mrs Nathan was presented at Court last night by the Duchess of Devonshire (wife of the Secretary of State for the Colonies). Until October, when they are to leave for New Zeaalnd by the Ormonde, she and her husband will | pay a.' succession of visits to' friends in England. Everyone in New Zealand knows how keen a worker Mrs Nathan is in the interests of the. Plunket Society and its welfare, and her friends will not he surprised to hear that she has been devoting considerable time to making known the merits and usefulness of the* system on the Continent. They will be delighted with the result. Everyone in New Zealand who helped to establish the Jaffa branch of the society will be glad to hear that through Mrs Nathan’s advocacy, tlie Jewish women in Paris are establishing a branch at Haifa., the principal port of Palestine. Indeed, to such a pitch did she arouse their interest that in two weeks a sum of £2OOO was subscribed for this new important extension. Further, Mr Nathan had many, talks with medical men in Paris, and Dr. Ribadeau Dumas, the head of the Maternity Hospital and himself a great authority on infant feeding and welfare, lias accepted a set of Dr. Truby King’s hooks and is very greatly interested in all that that authority has laid down. While in Lisbon, too, Mrs Nathan interested some, of the medical authorities, and the immediate result is that an infant welfare centre is to be established there in connection with the existing little hospital.
