COUNTY CENTRES

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

MAYFIELD. The Gun Club, which started in 1921 and went on for one season, has now been again revived, and there is a strong club, which held its opening day recently. An enthusiast of the club, Mr N. B. Morrow, offered a silver cup, to be won on the conditions of a threematch trial. At the conclusion of the first match, fired off on July 14, the leading comSstitors for the cup stood thus: essrs Revelley and T. Sewell, 9 birds each; W. J. Robertson, 8 birds; J. Drummond, 7 birds. At the conclusion of the trial the results were as follow: —W. J. Robertson, 9 birds; Messrs W. K. Dellow and (5. H. Sewell, 8 birds each. For these two matches clay birds were used.

For the third match each competitor will be allowed two clay birds and one sparrow. The third and final match for the cup will be fired off next Saturday. Great interest is centred in this match, and given a fine day there is no doubt but that there will be a large gathering of the public. To add further interest to the club, a trophy is being presented by Mr J. McElhinney, tobacconist, of Ashburton, and it is also probable that the club will later present a bracelet to keep up the interest of the competitors.
