PROGRESS OF MOTOR TRADE.

REWIEAV BY SIR ERIC G'EDDES. (Per Press Association, Copyright.) LONDON, July 23. Sir Eric Geddes, presiding over the 35t3i anniversary of the invention of the Dunlop pneumatic tyre, said that the world now possessed 15,000,000 motor-cars of which the United States had 12,000,000. The capital invested in the motor industry in the United States was equal to the total capital of the iron and isteel industry, and tho United States had spent more on new roads, in the last 25 years, than the total capital of all kinds visted in railroads. With the improvement in brakes and and non-skid tyres the speed limit was becoming ludicrous, but the improvement and classification of roads would lead to the abolition of the speed limit. The British motor tyre industry was suffering from American competition and also from competition from France, and other countries with depreciated currency.
