ENGINE-DRIVERS' GRIEVANCES.
HAMILTON, April .28. Mr A. E. Deny, an official of the E.F.C.A., said the execu^ivo had been holding the men in check sinoe November, 1917. The work was getting heavier and the hours longer. The meai wero repeatedly on clu^y ifor twenty hours, with no provisiou for meals. The position W-as .unbearable, and the breaking point had bf»en ■reached. The Prince's tour would be provided for so far as this district was concerned, but outside that he could not say. Mr Deny quoted the wages men were receiving outside the .service, up to 2s 6d an hour, while a driver with twenty years' service only got Is 10^-d. He emphasised the fact tthat the association was not demanding wages based on the mere cost of, living, but commensurate with the services performed.
