IMLAY WORKS DISPUTE.
WANGANUI, April 27
At the Magistrate's Court to-day, the Inspector of Awards proceeded against sixteen slaughtermen employed at the Imlay freezing works as a sequel to an alleged strike there in January last. It was stated for the prosecution that the slaughtermen asked for increased rates for killing, and on being refused ceased work the following day. Work was resumed a few days later. The defence was that the men ceased work on account of the wet condition of the sheep, and that their action was not associated with the question of killiug rates. Judgment was reserved.
