MANGAHAO WORKS.
WELLINGTON, April 27. The executive of the conference of local bodies on the Mangahao electric works, expresses dissatisfaction with the way the work is handled and urges the Government to improve matttrs. It is considered that the wages are too low, and that the amount should be 16s per day. The accommodation of the men is miserable—nothing but tents, and no fireplaces or drying apparatus, though the weather is frequently wet and 'misty. It is useless to expect to keep up sufficient labour unless the conditions of life are satisfactory, and the executive emphatically states that they are not. They appeal to the new Minister of Public .Works to tjike the matter in hand.
