CORONER'S COMMENTS

AUCKLAND, January. 7. At the inquest concerning the death of Charles' Macklow, who was killed, in a motor-cycle collision at Alexandra Park last night, an eye-witness stateti that the collision occurred, at tlie corner of the straight, after Craig had' turned. .Both cyclists were travelling at about 40 miles an hour. Craig's light was burning, and) in witness's opinion dust raised in a foiling light arid' tho 6b«curity created, by a fence «ere- contributing facts to the accident. 'Medical, evidence showed that death was due to fracture and laceration of tho brain. The Coroner retrimed a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony, death being the outcome of an accidental collision between deceased's cycle and that ridden by Sehvyn Craig. In delivering His verdict the Coroner made several remarks in which he deprecated the practice of motor-cycle racing. Ho said it was quite .clear that tlio Epsom track ■ wns' unsuitable -'for cycle racing by reason of obstacles in tho way of the vision of the rider's and the dust created 1. Motorcycle racing was a notoriously dangerous sport under the best of conditions, and ho'hoped that, everything would' be done at the ensuing meeting to guard against any untoward event. Macklow- enlisted when 18, and had'lengthy service in Palestine as a. motor-cycle dispatch rider with the mounted signal troop.
