SYDNEY, November .22.

Mr Justice Heydon has issued a statement regarding the alarming situation created by the rapid decrease inthe purchasing value of tho sovereign, affecting the living wage. In a judgment delivered in February, 1914, ho directed that the wages should flucituato according to the purchasing lvalue of tho sovereign. What then cost 23s 6d could be purchased now | only for 28s Id, this increasing the 'living wage from 48s to 635. Mr Justice Heydon decided that the resultant i increase in the cost of living cannot he met by increased wages. The obligations of the Wages Boards under 1 the clause must be suspended. He has referred the matter to the Government.
