ACTION AGAINST THE CROWN.
WELLINGTON, November 22
The Chief Justice delivered judgment in a caso wherein Walter Dinnie, exCommissioner of Police in New Zealand, sued the Crown for £501 damages for alleged wrongful dismissal. His •Honour was of "opinion that during the six months between Mr Dinnie's resignation of the Commissionership and his appointment to a position in the Native Department ho held no office under tho Crown. By receiving the amounts that he had paid into tho. Superannuation Fund, ho acted as if his office had ceased. "It may be that he has been harshly treated," concluded his Honour. "Into that question I hav6 no jurisdiction to inquire." Mr Dinnie was nonsuited, costs being allowed on the lowest scale.
