LYNDHURST.

Schooi Concert and Dance. Last Friday evening the anh.ua! concert and dance .in connection; with the Lyndhurst School was held in the Lyndhur&t Hull. Mr A y Capon (chairman ol' the '.School • Conimittee) presided. The following contributed items to the programme:—Songs, Misses C. and M. iVicKendry, M. Stephen, the School girls, Messrs Percy, Buchan, Poff, Goldsmith, and Master Frank McKendrv; recitations, Misses Evelyn and Eileen Scott, ■H. Tulley ' and rM. Dickie; pianoforte solo, Misses W. Breach, N. Dickie, and P, McKcndry; duets, Misses S. and V. Chambers and E. and L. Tulley. Misses McKendry, Beattie, Wolfreys, and Stephen acted as accompanists. A special feature of the programme was the singing of the " lied Cross Nurses' Song '' by the school children, who wore dressed in costume. They also sold buttonholes and sweets, the total proceeds of which amounted to €4 13s lid, which is to be devoted to lied Cj'o^s work. I)urine; iho evening the opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Miss F. H. Smith, who is severing her connection with tho school.—Miss Eileen Hale, on behalf of tho school children, in an appropriate speech, .iskod Miss Smith to accept a h.indsomo silver and Doulton cake-stand, suitably inscribed, as a token of their esteem and respect.—The recipient suitably responded. After the usual votes of thanks to the performers, the concert closed with the singing of the National Anthem, j The room was then cleared for dan- j .cinq, which was kept up till an-early hour to music supplied by the Lyndhurst Band (Messrs Reid, Lilley, Johnson, Lnwson. and Stephen).
