HAMPSTEAD TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Hampstead Town Board was held on Wed-' nesday evening. Present:—Messrs W. Thompson (chairman), W. H. Robinson, G. \V. Andrews, P. Baker, H. A. Lloyd, W. J. Cunningham, and S. Wilson ....■ The chairman reported f credit balance of £57 6s 3d. y In reply to the Board's letter, an opinion regarding the taking of a property for street widening purposes was received from the New Zealand Municipal Association. —A committee consisting of Messrs Thompson,' Andrews, Lloyd, and Cunningham was appointed to go into, the Act referred to in the opinion, and to report at next meeting. Mr A. A. Fooks wrote asking for the Board's certificate in connection with the road through Mr Kerr's property at Netherby.—Messrs Robinson and Lloyd reported having inspected the road and having found that it had been completed in a satisfactory manner.—lt was resolved to grant the certificate, provided that all liabilities in connection therewith had been discharged. ' The Ashburton Gas, Coal, and Coke Company and the Ashburton Electric Supply Company wrote forwarding tenders for lighting. —It was resolved^ on the motion of Mr Lloyd and MiBaker, that the tenders be left in the hands of the Lighting Committee with power to act. The Ashburton Hospital and Char it- ( able Aid Board wrote forwarding a copy of its resolution in regard to levy on | contributing bodie3. —Received. Mr A. Megson wrote applying for ! remission of his sanitary rate. —It was decided to remit half the fee.
Seven alternate tenders were received for day work and scavenging, and,; after a lengthy discussion, that of J. Allen was accepted for/the scavenging, and'that of T: Cochrane for day work.
The various committees made their usual monthly reports, which were adopted. It was resolved to alter the night of the Board's meeting to the fourth ■Wednesday in each month. .
The following resolution, was passed: —" That "the Board strike a general rate of §d in the pound on all rateable property in the Hampstead Town District for the year, ending; Marcli.3l, 1915." . ;,^y - The following transfers were gpvjited: —Public Trusteo in the estate of^Evan Davies, deceased, to George Stoatlart, Lot 117, D.P. 309;. from W. J. Cunningham to E. E. Riley, Lot 2. D.P. 395; from R. Cunningham and M. E. Pickford to W. J. Cunningham, Lot 1. D.P. 395. Notifications of transfer of sections in Smith's estate* were received, and it was decided to hold them over until the roads had been passed and dedicated to the, Board.
The chairman and the clerk were given authority to sue for all outstanding rates. ' Accounts amounting to £45 were passed for payment.
