YOUNG FARMER'S SUICIDE.
MADE UP HIS MIND TO DIE
• AUCKLAND, October 1. An inquest' was held to-day by Mr E. C. Cutten, S.M., into the circumstances connected with the death of Percy Butler, a young farmer from Hunua, who had been found with his throat cut on Thursday of last week. The injured man died in the Auckland Hospital on Monday. !
His father said that the son had been working at a house on the farm. ; His health had been good and lie "flid. not drink. On Thursday evening witness found ;,his son with his throat cut,. Deceased admitted before death that he had idone the deed himself, . . '•"."
Dr Maguiro said the deceased had apparently made up his mind to die, as ho resisted all efforts to feed him. He | said that he had been seized with a' horrible impulse to cut his own throat. The deed must have been done while he was of unsound mind. " Death from solf-inflictcd injuries, deceased being of unsound mind at the time." was the verdict returned. MARTON, October 1. • The Hunterville police report the sudden death last night of John Pateman, employed by Mr Walter Fernie, of Pohonui. He was's3 years of age, and belonged to Wanganui. . CHRISTCHUROH, October 1. An inquest was held into the circumstances connected with- the death of Henry Metcalf, aged 50 years, a tailor', residing in Springfield Road, St. Albans, who died suddenly in Hereford Street yesterday afternoon. Th© verdict/was that death was due to heart failure. A Mental Hospital patient named Peter Wooley died last night after undergoing an operation for rupture.
