A PECULIAR CASE. " ■' ''iHrrr-'----(Per Pres^ Association.)
AUCKLAND, October 1. The circumstances connected with the death of Lawrence Varian Wilson, a tailor, aged 20, 'the victim; ot a motor-car accident at Mangere on bunday last, were shown at the inquest to be as an unusual nature. The Coroner (Mr E. C. Cutten, S.M.) conducted the inquiry. , ■ The medical evidence was to tne effect that the deceased w£s a victim of haemophilia (a " bleeder.") ; - Dr Maguire, medical superintendent, .of the Hospital, sa,id deceased was admitted on September 28, with a fractilre of the right collarbone. He said, too, that he was what was known as a " bleeder." Shortly after his admission, his collarbone was set. On the day following his shoulder was very much swollen and he was very blue in colour. He sank rapidly and died at 7. p.m. The cause of death was fracture of the collarbone, taumatic haemorrhage and haemorrhage due to haemophilia, which was a congenital defect affecting the coagulating property of the blood. Any slight wound might cause such a subject to bleed to death, and one rarely lived beyond the age of 20. The deceased's mother had said that she, had experienced considerable trouble with him and it was a wonder that he lived so long. . A verdict in accordance with the medical testimony was returned,; the Coroner recording that the injuries were accidentally received.
