jßefore the North Canterbury School Committee's Association last night, Mr J. Studholme gave a lecture, entitled, "Impressions of Education in America and Canada."

'At a meeting. of, the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday . the Harbour Improvements Committee reported that it had considered the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board's letter drawing attention to the. objectionable practice of throwing . cuspidores , from' vessels into the inner harbour, and recommerideded .that the shipping'companies should be requested to take immediate steps to prevent a recurrence of the nuisanoe complained of.

The Lyttelton Borough Council is letting no' grass grow under its feet in connection with the trans-harbour suburb proposal. At a meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday morning a letter was received from the Council, stating that it was about to establish a regular ferry service between Lyttelton and Diamond Harbour, and asking the Board to repair the jetty and to consider the matter of leasing the jetty to the Council. Dr Thacker said'-that if the other jetties had to pay n toll this jetty should do tlie same/ Tho matter' was referred to a committee.
