OLD PUPILS' ASSOCIATION.

Before proceeding with the evening's programme•' Mr "Wattcrs spoke m regard to the value of an ex-pupils' association, and advocated its formation, as an institution that would be helpful alike to present and to past, pupils. Eight hundred pupils had been enrolled by the school since its formation m 1881, seven hundred of these having passed through it. Mr Norris endorsed his Principal's remarks. The present year was looked upon by many as the annus mirabilis (the wonderful year) of the school, and he thought the crowning touch would be put on if its close saw a definite step 1 taken m the direction indicated by Mr 1 Watters. Mr H. H. Fooks said that, as an Old Boy, he took pleasure m being prej sent that evening. He thought an Old Boys' Association, or an Old Pupils' Association, would be a most desirable thing, and he would do all he could to help - such an institution if it were formed. After referring to the healthy atmosphere which such associations created and preserved, Mr Fooks, as an early Eighty boy, and one who had not previously been m the present school building. congratulated the school on its present position, and the Headmaster and staff on the obvious results of their work. Miss E. It. Choat, Christclrarch, having spoken m a similar strain op behalf of the Old Girls present, Mr Fooks moved that steps be taken to form an Ex-Pupils' Association. This was seconded by Mr D. E. Oraighead, and carried unanimously. Mr E. B. Bell moved: "That a subcommittee, consisting of Misses E. It. Choat and M. J. Turner, Messrs H. H. Fooks, P. L. Orr, J. B. Christian, D. E. Craighead, the headmaster and present teaching staff and the mover, be appointed to take the necessary steps to bring about the formation of an Old Pupils' Association, and to report to a meeting to be held at the end of February." . This was seconded by Miss Buchanan, and carried unanimously.
