THE PREMIER'S CONGRATULATIONS.
WELLINGTON, June 8. At the invitation of the editors of the London Standard and London Chronicle, Sir Joseph Ward-sent congratulatory cablegrams regarding the opening of the Press Conference. In these he stated that New Zealand recognised the immense importance of the Conference, which would make for a powerfully better understanding of the mutual interest of the Motherland and the oversea dominions, and help to establish an improved and permanent basis for true Imperialism. The opening of the Conference was also another portentious mark of the everincreasing solidarity. of Empire. He believed that the Conference would result m the effective co-operation of the Press throughout all the oversea dominions, m the cause of true Imperialism, and m all great movements that make to that end.
