SOCIAL FUNCTIONS.
The Speaker presided at the House of Commons luncheon. Mr Asquith, Mr Haldane, Sir Edward Grey, and Lords Milner, Curzon and Cronier were present. Mr Birrell, m a humorous speech, proposed "Our Guests," and Mr Kirwan, West Australia, replied to the toast. After listening to the Budget debate, the delegates and the ladies of the party motored to Marlbdrough House, to the garden party given by the Prince and Princess of Wales. The King and Queen, Prince and Princess Nashimoti (of. Japan) and representatives of the, Press, professions, services, and society were present. In the evening Lord Derby, Mr Austen Chamberlain, Mr Hairy Lawson, Mr Moberley Bell, Mr Spender (editor of the Westminster Gazette), Mr Donald (editor of the Daily Chronicle), and Mr Kennedy Jones (director of the associated newspapers), entertained the party of delegates at dinner, Afterwards they attended Lady Salisbury's reception at Arlington Street^ where there was a brilliant gathering of politicians and aristocrats.
