A deputation from the Cooks' and Waiters' Conference waited on tji© 'Minister of Labour with .a request for. assistance m ameliorating the Jot of the workers m their calling, Tb.e speakers strongly condemned the con? ditions under which cooks and waiters had to work ; and the Minister said that the hours mentioned were, to say the least, unreasonable, and he would lessen them if he could do so. As to the condition of the workers, that was of supreme importance. He had seen, m [back yards m Wellington, condiWms that ,were simply revolting. The matters- mentioned by the deputation would receive' the consideration of the Cabinet. -
