No. 176. —Petition of J. McAlpine and 169 Others, of Auckland. Praying for inquiry into the method of assistance granted in connection with boot-repairs for unemployed relief workers by the Unemployment Board. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 22nd November, 1933.

Workers' Compensation Amendment Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report: (a) That the time at its disposal did not admit of the Committee's giving full consideration to the whole aspect of the law governing payment to injured workers ; and (b) that, in view of the provisions now made by the Unemployment Board in meeting claims for compensation to relief workers incapacitated through accidents, in all cases where the Board carries the accident compensation liability, the Committee recommends that the Bill be not allowed to proceed this session. 18th December, 1933.

No. 220.—Petition of A. Black (representing the Amalgamated Engineers and Allied Trades Industrial Union of Workers, of Wellington). Praying for inquiry into the holding of examinations for motor mechanics by the New Zealand Garage-proprietors Association. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 18th December, 1933.

No. 255. —Petition of C. C. Knight and 2 Others. Praying for inquiry into the conditions of film-hiring in New Zealand. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 18th December, 1933.

No. 245. —Petition of G. M. Mackenzie and 13 Others. Praying for inquiry into the conditions of film-hiring in New Zealand. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 18th December, 1933.

No. 247. —Petition of G. J. Prosser and 92 Others, of Dunedin. Praying for relief from unfair competition of the boot-repairing scheme for unemployed. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 18th December, 1933. S. G. Smith, Chairman.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the members of the Labour Bills Committee desire to record their great appreciation of the ability, tact, and unfailing courtesy manifested in the conduct of the business of the Committee by its Chairman, Mr. S. Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee, consisting of ten members, has during the session held five meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of seven members. Five petitions and three Bills were referred to the Committee, and have been reported upon to the House. 20th December, 1933. S. G. Smith, Chairman.
