ORDERS OP REFERENCE.

Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Wednesday, the 26th Day of Mabch, 1941. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting, by leave, of twelve members, to consider all matters relating to public health, infections diseases, contagious diseases, hospitals, and to local authorities having charge of these matters, and to other matters affecting public health which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Anderton, Mr. Boswell, the Hon. Mr. Cobbe, Mr. Coleman, Mr. Doidge, Mr. Kyle, Dr. McMillan, tho Hon. Mr. Paikca, Mr. Richards, Mr. Roy, Mrs. Stewart, and the Mover." —(Hon. Mr. Nordmeyer.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1940 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session." —(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Thursday, the 21st Day of August, 1941. Ordered, " That the Public Health Committee be increased, by leave, to thirteen members by the addition of the name of Mrs. Dreaver."—(Hon. Mr. Nordmeyer.) Friday, the sth Day of September, 1941. Ordered, " That the Social Security Amendment Bill be referred to the Public Health Committee."—(Hon. Mr. Nordmeyer.) Tuesday, the 14th Day of October, 1941. Ordered, " That the petition of L. F. Roac.he be referred direct to the Public Health Committee."—(Mr. Dickie.)

REPORTS.

No. 22/1940. —Petition of J. Carroll, of Henderson. Praying for a compassionate grant on account of a disability allegedly contracted while employed at the Auckland Mental Hospital. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommends this petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. The Committee is of the opinion that the petitioner should be granted a compassionate allowance. 22nd August, 1941.

No. 4. —Petition of Joan Walkek Bicknell, of Palmerston North. Praying for the release of her son from the mental hospital. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 22nd August, 1941.

Social Security Amendment Bill. The Public Health Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same and taken evidence thereon, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with amendments as shown on the copy of the Bill annexed hereto. 11th September, 1941.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. L. C. Dawe as Clerk of the Committee. 17th October, 1941. W. T. Anderton, Chairman.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee wishes to place on record its appreciation of the services rendered to the Committee by the Chairman, Mr. W. T. Anderton, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House. 17th October, 1941. J. G. Cobbe, Member of the Committee. *

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Health Committee, consisting of thirteen members, has during the session held five meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of eight members. Four petitions were referred to the Committee, two of which were reported on and two held over until next session.
