REPORTS.

Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy of the Bill annexed hereto. 21st April, 1936, R. Mclveen, Chairman.

Factories Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered the Factories Amendment Bill, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy of the Bill annexed hereto. A. Campbell, for Chairman. sth May, 1936.

Shops and Offices Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered the Shops and Offices Amendment Bill, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy of the Bill annexed hereto. 15th May, 1936.

Agricultural Workers Bill. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered the Agricultural Workers Bill, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy of the Bill annexed hereto. 20th August, 1936.

No. 212.—Petition of A. Hansen, of Palmerston North. Praying for a compassionate allowance on account of injuries allegedly sustained while employed on relief works. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 10th September, 1936.

No. 137.—Petition of H. Mitchell, of Wellington. Praying for a rehearing of his case for compensation under the Workers' Compensation Act, 1922. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 17th September, 1936.

No. 144.—Petition of A. E. Raffle, of Denniston. Praying for compensation, and for amendment of the Workers' Compensation Act, 1922. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 17th September, 1936.

No. 270.—Petition of F. W. Garner, of Wellington. Praying for further compensation for injuries received while employed by the Railways Department. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 16th October, 1936.

No. 189.—Petition of H. E. Piper and 1,789 Others. Praying for exemption from the provisions for compulsory unionism contained in section 18 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act, 1936. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 23rd October, 1936.

No. 38.—Petition of A. H. Rae, of Auckland. Praying for additional compensation for injuries sustained whilst employed on relief works. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration, with a recommendation that the subjectmatter be referred to a medical referee to be agreed upon by the petitioner and the State Insurance Department, and, failing such agreement, that it be referred to the Arbitration Court. 27th October, 1936.

No. 277.—Petition of J. Falconer, of Oamaru. Praying for further compensation on account of an injury sustained while employed by the Public Works Department. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration, with a recommendation that suitable employment be found for the petitioner in the Public Works Department. 27th October, 1936.

No. 266.—Petition of J. Rider, of Christchurch. Praying for compensation for injuries allegedly sustained in the course of his employment. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 29th October, 1936.

No. 140.—Petition of W. J. Meade and 122 Others, of Dunedin. Praying for amendment of the Shops and Offices Amendment Bill. I am directed to report that the member in charge of the petition having expressed a desire to withdraw same, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so. 29th October, 1936.

No. 135.—Petition of C. Stevens and 195 Others, of Wellington. Praying for amendment of the Shops and Offices Amendment Bill. I am directed to report that the member in charge of the petition having expressed a desire to withdraw same, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so. 29th October, 1936.

No. 136. —Petition of A. S. Taylor and 76 Others, of Christchurch. Praying for amendment of the Shops and Offices Amendment Bill. I am directed to report that the member in charge of the petition having expressed a desire to withdraw same, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so. C. H. Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Labour Bills Committee passed the following resolution: " That this Committee place on record its appreciation of the capable manner in which Mr. C. H. Chapman carried out the duties of Chairman in the absence of Mr. McKeen in Europe, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House." D. W. I, have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Labour Bills Committee passed the following resolution: " That the Committee place on record its appreciation of the efficient manner in which the Clerk, Mr. E. A. Dobbie, has carried out his duties during the session, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House." 29th October, 1936.

Final Report. J:'have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee, has during the session held sixteen meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of seven members. Eleven petitions and four Bills were referred to the Committee, and have been reported upon to the House. 29th October, 1936. C. H. Chapman, for Chairman.
