Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all Bills and other matters relating to mining which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Bodkin, Mr Denham Mr. Herring, Mr. Holyoake, the Hon. Molyneux Gold Dredging Company (Claims Amalgamation) Bill. I have the honour to report that the Goldfields and Mines Committee has duly considered the Molyneux Gold Dredging Company (Claims Amalgamation) Bill and recommends that it be allowed to proceed, without amendment. 28th May, 1936.

No. 61.—Petition of F. Reed, of Auckland. Praying for an increase in his superannuation allowance. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 20th August, 1936.

No. 58.—Petition of D. McGlennon, of Thames. Praying that he be granted, a miner's phthisis pension or a compassionate allowance in lieu thereof. No. 142.—Petition of Mary A. Nutt, of Millerton. Praying for a grant to cover expenses in connection with the death of her son, who was killed while prospecting. No. 180.—Petition of 11. J. Dwyer, of Auckland. Praying that he be granted a miner's phthisis pension. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 27th August, 1936.

No. 53.—Petition of J. W. Danby, and 51 Others, of Thames. Praying that T. Rowley be granted a miner's phthisis pension or a compassionate allowance in lieu thereof. I am directed to report that, as the petitioner has not exhausted his legal remedy, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 29th September, 1936.

No. 149.—Petition of J. Hale, of Kaitangata. Praying that he be granted a miner's phthisis pension. 1 am directed to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, but, as provision has been made by recent amendment of the Pensions Act for cases of this kind, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 29th September, 1936.

No. 227.—Petition of T. Moriarty, of Stillwater. Praying for additional compensation for alleged wrongful transfer of title to land and subsequent destruction of the said land by the dredging operations of a gold-mining company. 1 am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make in regard to this petition. 29th September, 1936.

No. 187.—Petition of F. G. Biddulph, of Blackball. Praying for a compassionate allowance equivalent to a miner's phthisis pension. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 31st October, 1936.

No. 156.—Petition of R. E. Laybourn, of Hikurangi. Praying that he be granted a miner's phthisis pension. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 31st October, 1936.

No. 313.—Petition of J. Collins, of Runanga. Praying that he be granted a miner's phthisis pension. I am directed to report that, as the prayer of the petition is met by recent legislation, the Committee has no recommendation to make. J. O'Brien, Chairman. 31st October, 1936.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Goldfields and Mines Committee unanimously passed the following resolution: " That this Committee places on record its appreciation of the capable manner in which Mr. O'Brien, as Chairman, has conducted the business of the Committee, and of his interest and impartiality therein, and recommends that this resolution be reported to the House." James Thorn, a Member of the Committee. 31st October, 1936.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Goldfields and Mines Committee expressed, by resolution, its appreciation of the services throughout the session, of the Clerk of the Committee, Mr. E. M. Anderson, and directed that I should so report to the House. 31st October, 1936.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that during the session the Goldfields and Mines Committee, consisting of ten members, has held ten meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of seven members. Seventeen petitions were referred to the Committee, sixteen were reported on and one is held over. J. O'Brien, Chairman. 31st October, 1936.
