REPORTS.
No. 244, 1934.—Petition of W. A. Brown, or Dorset Avenue, New Plymouth, and 531 Others, and 43 Petitions of a Similar Nature, as per Schedule attached. Praying that legislation be enacted providing for the enrolment of children at public schools on attaining the age of five years. I have the honour to report that, in view of the strong case made by the petitioners and of the fact that the five-year-old children were excluded as an economy measure, having regard to the improved condition of the country's finances, this Committee is of the opinion that the readmission of the five-year-old children to the schools should receive the most favourable consideration when the whole system of education comes up for review next year. 25th October, 1935.
