Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Friday, the 6th Day of September, 1935. Ordered, " That a Public Accounts Committee be set up consisting of ten members, to examine into and report upon such questions relating to the public accounts as may be referred to it by the House or the Government, and also into all matters relating to the finances of the Dominion which the Government may refer to it- the Committee to consist of Mr. Broadfoot, Mr. Connolly, Mr. Endean, Mr. Holyoake, Mr. Howard, Mr. J. A. Nash, Mr. W. Nash, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Wilkinson, and the Mover."-—(Eight Hon. Mr. Forbes for Eight Hon. Mr. Coates.) Wednesday, the 16th Day op October, 1935. Ordered, "That the Government Eailways (Wellington to Johnsonville) Bill be referred to the Public Accounts Committee." —(Eight Hon. Mr. Forbes.) Tuesday, the 22nd Day of October, 1935. Ordered, " That the Public Accounts Committee have leave to sit during the present sitting of the House."—(Mr. J. A. Nash.)

REPORTS.

Government Railways (Wellington to Johnsonville) Bill. I have the honour to report that the Public Accounts Committee has carefully considered the Government Railways (Wellington to Johnsonville) Bill and heard evidence thereon, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed with the amendments shown in the attached copy of the Bill. 24th October, 1935.

Special Repokt. I have the honour to report that the Public Accounts Committee desire to express their appreciation of the services rendered to the Committee by the Clerk, Mr. L. C. Dawe, and, further that this resolution be recorded in the minutes of the Committee and reported to the House. 25th October, 1935.

Pinal Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Accounts Committee, consisting of ten members, has during the present session held twelve meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of six members. The estimates of expenditure for the financial year ending 31st March, 1936, were considered by the Committee. Seventy officers of State were summoned before and examined by the Committee on the votes of their respective Departments. Twenty-four resolutions in all on the various items of the estimates were agreed to by tTie Committee and referred to the Hon. the Minister of Finance for consideration. The Government Railways (Wellington to Johnsonville) Bill was referred to the Committee for consideration. Extensive evidence was heard thereon, and the conclusions of the Committee, which carefully considered the Bill, were reported to the House. J. A. Nash, Chairman. 25th October, 1935.
