I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition be reported back to the House in order that it may be referred to the A to L Public Petitions Committee for consideration and report. 12th December, 1933. No. 236. —Petition of Florence E. Ford, of Invercargill. Praying for a compassionate allowance in respect of her late husband's services in the Post and Telegraph Department. I am directed to report that, in the opinion of the Committee, this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 18th December, 1933.

No. 166.—Petition of R. H. Burrell, of Auckland. Praying that he be granted a compassionate allowance in consideration of his services with the Police Force. I am directed to report that, in the opinion of the Committee, this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 18th December, 1933.

No. 127. —Petition of G. W. Drew, of Auckland. Praying for additional compensation for death of son while employed by the Public Works Department. I am directed to report that, in view of the financial position of the parents, who are receiving charitable aid, and the fact that a lump sum of £572 was offered by the Department and subsequently reduced by the Arbitration Court to £100, the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 18th December, 1933.

No. 283/1932-33. —Petition of J. Kennedy, of Wellington. Praying for an inquiry regarding his detention in a mental hospital. I am directed to report that, as the prayer of the petition has been granted, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 18th December, 1933.

I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions A to L (Supplementary) Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. Anderson, Committee Clerk, who, notwithstanding the fact that rush meetings have been held, has always assisted the Committee in every possible way, and the Committee much appreciates his help and courtesy. 20th December, 1933. Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions A to L (Supplementary) Committee, consisting of ten members, has held six meetings during the session, with an average attendance of six members.
