REPORTS. No. 124. —Petition of Joseph Ingley, of New Plymouth. Petitioner prays that he may bo granted the New Zealand War Medal, together with all its privileges, or a compassionate allowance in lieu thereof. I am directed to report that the Committee repeats its recommendation of last year —viz., that the petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 28th August, 1924.
No. 97. —Petition of Julia King, of Petone. Petitioner prays that an adequate pension may be granted to her in recognition of her husband's military services. ' ' I am directed to report that the Committee! repeats the recommendation of last session—viz., that this petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 28th August, 1924.
No. 50. —Petition of William Strong (Mayor) and 147 Others, of Naseby. That a pension may be obtained for James Crawford, of Naseby, in recognition of his military services during the Crimean War. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for the purpose of having the claims of James Crawford brought before the Imperial authorities. 28th August, 1924.
No. 68. —Petition of Harriet Simeon, of Epsom, Auckland. Petitioner prays that she may be granted the difference between the New Zealand and Imperial rates of pay and. gratuity for services on the Nursing Staff during the war. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 28th August, 1924.
No. 119.—Petition of James Eattenbury, of Waitara. Petitioner prays that his pension for services during the Maori wars may be made retrospective to the inception of the Act of 1913, or that a compassionate allowance may be granted for the loss of his rights. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 28th August, 1924.
No. 128.—Petition of Christian Kienle, of Auckland. Petitioner prays for compensation for losses incurred through, his internment during tin; war. 1 am directed to report that, as this petition refers to a matter of policy, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 28th August, 1924,
No. 59.—Petition of Leo Sim, of Mangaweka. PETITIONER prays for payment of an amount alleged to have been short-paid to him for his military services. I am directed to report that the Committee, having been advised that all necessary steps have been taken to bring the petitioner's case before the Imperial authorities, therefore has no recommendation to make. 28th August, 1924.
No. 116.—Petition of Anne Kathleen Hunter, of Wellington. For an adequate compassionate allowance in recognition of her late, husband's military services. I am directed to report that, as this petition deals with a question of policy, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 28th August, 1924.

No. 171. —Petition of Edwin Bezar, of Wellington. That his long and faithful services as a soldier may be taken into consideration, and adequate pecuniary assistance be granted to him. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 16th September, 1924.
No. 205.—Petition of John Earl, of Wellington. Praying that he be granted a compassionate allowance, or provided with light work, on account of his having been disabled whilst serving in the Navy. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. ,16th September, 1924.
No. 204. —Petition of Jaspar George William Salt, of Wellington. Petitioner complains that he has been wrongfully treated in regard to questions of pay, leave, and removal expenses, also in the matter of an alleged breach of the Treasury Regulations. He prays for inquiry and relief. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that all matters referred to in this petition, except the question as to leave raised in paragraph 2 thereof, should bo referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 16th September, 1924.
No. 91. —Petition of Sydney Tovey, of Wellington. Praying for compensation for alleged neglect in treatment of his injuries received during his service with the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. I am directed to report that, in face of the medical evidence tendered to the Committee, no recommendation can be made. 16th September, 1924.
No. 1.93. —Petition of Charles Harte and 9 Others, of the Heihei Settlement, Hornby, Canterbury. (First Report.) Petitioners, who are T.B. soldiers placed on poultry-farms in the Heihei Settlement, Hornby, Canterbury, by the Repatriation Department, complain that they are unable to live on their present pension-;, and pray for relief. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the subject of this petition is one for attention by the Repatriation Department, and therefore recommends the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 17th September, .1924. (Referred back to Committee for further consideration.)
No. 37. —Petition of Alfred Robert Daniel Box, of Port Chalmers. PioriTioNEß complains that he was wrongfully detained in a, mental hospital, and ho prays for redress. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 3rd October, 1924.
No. 263. —Petition of C. N. Clark, of Tauranga. Petitioner prays that he may be granted an adequate pension for his war disabilities, and that the same be made retrospective. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 3rd October, 1924.

No. 179. —Petition of Charles Pollard, of Glen Eden, Auckland. Petitioner complains that the compensation allowed to him for loss of office was inadequate, and he prays for further relief. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 3rd October, 1924.
No. 60. —Petition of Harriet M. Robertson, of Auckland. Praying for a compassionate allowance in recognition of her late husband's military services as sergeant-major in the; New Zealand Permanent Defence Force. 1 am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government with a recommendation, that the granting of a compassionate allowance be favourably considered. 3rd October, 1924.
No. 12. —Petition of Joseph Paterson Shand, of Wellington. Petitioner complains that owing to the war ending earlier than was anticipated he has been left with a large stock of military publications which were ordered for the benefit of the Defence Forces and which are now quite unsaleable. He prays for relief. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 3rd October, 1924.
No. 166. —Petition of Waipukurau South African Veterans' Association, of Waipukurau. Hawke's Bay. Praytng that any resident of New Zealand who served in the South African War may be granted the right to ballot for land under the same conditions as apply to those who served in the late Great War. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 10th October, 1924.
No. 254. —Petition of Margaret Cameron, of Richmond Grove, Invorcargill. Praying for a pension in recognition of the military services of her two sons. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 10th October, 1924.
No. 387.—Petition of G. C. B. Wolfe, of Surfdale. Praying for compensation in recognition of military services rendered to the Dominion of New Zealand. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition, 3rd November, 1924.
No. 394. —Petition of Sydney Tovey, of Wellington. Praying for a rehearing of his petition with a view to bringing fresh medical evidence before the Defence Committee. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 3rd November, 1924.
