ORDER OF REFERENCE. Extract from the Journals of the. House of Representatives. Wednesday, the 17th Day or May, 1916. Ordered, "That Standing Order No. 219 bo suspended, and that a Native Affairs Committee he appointed, consisting of fourteen members, to consider all petitions, reports, returns, and other documents relating to affairs especially affecting the Native race that may be brought before the House this sossion, and from time to time to report thereon to the House ; with powor to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of tfie Hon. Affairs Committee held its final meeting this morning. During the session the Committee met on 34 occasions, with an average attendance of 9 at each meeting. Including 11.9 brought forward from last session, the Committee had before it 1.94 petitions. Of these, 116 were considered and reported upon, and the remaining 78 are held over for consideration next session. Upon 24 the Committee reported favourably, upon 82 it, had no recommendation to make, and 10 were withdrawn. The Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill, and clauses 41 and 49 of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Bill were referred to the Committee, and were duly considered and reported upon. Five parliamentary papers were referred to the Committee, and were duly considered and reported upon. The total number of reports presented to the House, was 120. 4th August, 1.916.
