ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House, of Representatives. Fbidax, thio 19th Day of May, 1916. Ordered, " That a Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all petitions from A to I. that may be referred to it by the Petitions Classification Committee, to classify and prepare abstracts of such petitions in such form and manner as shall appear to it best suited to convey to this House all requisite information respecting their contents, and to report the same from time to time to this House, and to have power to report its opinions and observations thereon to this House ; also to have power to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Brown, Mr. .1. S. Dickson, Mr. Escott, Mr. Fletcher, Mr. Harris, Mr. Payne, Mr. T. W. Rhodes, Dr. Thackcr, Mr. Wright, and the mover." (Hon. Mr. Russell.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session 1915 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred during the said session." (Right Hon. Mr. Massuy.)

No. 137.—Petition of Richard Body, of Winslow. Praying for compensation, for the death of his son, an ex-gunner of the Royal New Zealand Artillery. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to (lie Government for consideration. 12th July, 1916.

No. 2.—Petition of Gertrude Burbery, of Wellington. Praying for compassionate allowance for services rendered by her late husband whilst a member of the Defence Force. 1 am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 12th July, 19.16.

No. 56.—Petition of Archibald R. Clarke, of Christchurch. Praying for compensation for the loss of his left leg whilst engaged as marker in a miniature-rifle match. 1 am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and that a suitable position be found him in the Public Service. 12th July, 1916.

No. 9.—Petition of W. H. Clarke and 22 Others, of Auckland. Praying that they be granted the full military and old-age pensions. I am directed to report that in. the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favour-able consideration. 12th July, 1916.

No. 369 (1915). —Petition of .Roger Delamere Danhky, of Rotorua. Praying that legislation be enacted to enable the Government to fix the tariff for the carriage of goods on the tramway from Mokai to Putaruru. I am directed, to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition 12th July, 1916.

Praying for monetary redress or other relief for injuries sustained by a railway accident whilst a member of the Expeditionary Forces. 1 am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the Government should be recommended to find suitable employment for the petitioner. 12th July, 1916.

No. 148.—Petition of W. J. Geddis and Another, of Auckland. Praying for a refund of costs incurred in defending an action for libel. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and petitioners should be refunded in full all legal expenses. 12th July, 1916.

No. 98.—Petition of Andrew Hunter, of Matakana Island. Praying that legislation be passed providing that Matakana Island shall cease to form part of the Tauranga County. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 12th July, 1916.

No. 216. —Petition of Frederica Bell, of Waiuku. Praying that her old-age pension be restored and increased, and that arrears of pension be paid to her. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 19th July. 1916.

No. 144. —Petition of James Joseph Leander Burke and 6 Others, of Wellington. Praying that legislation be passed this session, appointing a Board of Censors, for the regulation and control of all picture-films. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and that legislation be introduced immediately, as requested by petitioners. 19th 1916.

No. 4.—Petition of Thomas Gresiiam, of Auckland. Praying for an annual allowance for services rendered as Coroner. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition, should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and petitioner be granted an annual allowance. 19th July, 1916.

No. 20. —Petition of William Henshaw, of Putaruru, Praying for compensation for loss of clothes whilst a member of the Expeditionary Forces. 1 am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 19th July, 1.916. No. 227.—Petition of Gustave Victor Hugo, of Wellington. (Second Report.) Praying for compensation for financial losses caused through delay in granting petitioner a permit to leave the Dominion. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 19th July, 1916.

No. 63.—Petition of Lillias Barron, of Sydney. Praying for Compensation and relief on account of her late husband's services as District Surveyor in the Lands and Survey Department. I am directed to report that the Committee is strongly of the opinion this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and that petitioner should be granted a prompt compassionate allowance. 27th July, 1916.

I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 2nd August, 1916.

Special Rioi'Okt. 1 have the honour to report that the Committee, by resolution at its meeting on Wednesday, the 2nd August, desires to record its deep sense of appreciation of the services rendered to the Committee and the Dominion by the late J. H. Eseott, Esq., ex-Chairman of the Committee, and that this resolution be recorded in the Journals of the House. 2nd August, 191.6.

Special Report l . I have the honour to report that at the meeting of the Public Petitions A to L Committee held on Wednesday, the 2nd August, the following resolution was unanimously agreed to : — " That the Chairman (J. Vigor Brown, Esq.) be tendered the thanks of the Committee for the courteous, impartial, and prompt manner in which he conducted the business of the Committee during the past session, and that this resolution be recorded in the minutes, and be reported to the House." 2nd August, 1916.
