PRESENTATION IN EGYPT COLOURFUL CEREMONIES KNIGHTHOOD FOR FREYBERG (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service) CAIRO, Feb. 13 Before a parade of the youngest infantry brigade group of the New Zealand Division General Sir B. C. Freyberg, V.C., today received the insignia of Knighthood of the British Empire at a colourful military ceremony at the base camp. General Sir Archibald Auchinleck also presented decorations won duri ing the campaigns in Greece, Crete and Libya to 46 nurses, officers and men. This was the first occasion in the history of the division in this I war that awards have been made to i nurses at a military parade. These were matrons of two New Zealand hospitals who were decorated for distinguished services. General Auchinleck, accompanied by General Freyberg, inspected the troops, who then marched past in review' order. In a single rank made colourful by the grey and red nurses’ uniforms,, the red tabs of high ranking officers and the white bands of officer cadets, the recipients took up a position in front of the platform, to which they advanced in turn for General Auchinleck to pin on their ribbons. Highlight of Parade Then came the highlight of the parade. The line turned about ing the brigade, which presented arms, the tribute being acknowledged by salutes. The ceremony ended with massed bands playing and the general salute by the brigade. The decorations were:— Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire.—General Freyberg.
