TE RAPA GALLOPS

GAY ROSETTE IMPRESSES KARATOKI HITS OUT FOXSEN OVER SIX (By “Martian”) The going on the No. 1 track at Te Rapa this morning was in splendid order for galloping and much useful work was accomplished by candidates with engagements at the approaching Rotorua fixture. The best efforts of the morning were those of Miss Bridge and Gold Spot over three furlongs, Vitement over half-a-mile, Ngawiri over five and Foxsen over seven, while Gay Rosette hit out attractively over a round. Royal Melody (O. Mclnally) came home from the half-mile in 535, her last three furlongs being run in 40s. Sporting Ace (McGregor) ran the final three furlongs of his work in 40 2-ss. Penzance was doing better than Laughing Fox (Brown) at the completion of half a mile in 5045. The latter, who was purchased by Mr W. S. Goosman at the disposal of Mrs R. T. Reid’s string at Trentham recently, has been taken in hand by A. Winder. Well Away (Poole) ran six furlongs easily in 1.25. Acreman (Brady) and Tea Drop (McGregor) were associated over six furlongs in 1.17, the final five furlongs being traversed in 1.3 4-5. Both did their work well. Karatoki Beats Royal Son Karatoki (Gollop), who is none the worse for Matamata exertions, was holding Royal Son (Carmont, jun.) at the completion of five furlongs in 1.2 1-5. Karatoki has good prospects 1 in the Geyser Hack on the first day ot tne Rotorua fixture. Foxmint and Awaiti occupied 524 s for the final half-mile of their work. Roxy (Sinton) negotiated a circuit in 2.1 1-5. Respectful (Brady), assisted over the last half-mile by Royal Jay (Gollop) got to the end of five furlongs in 1.34. Runanga (Taylor) disclosed dash in sprinting home from the threefurlong peg in 375. He is coming to hand well. Vitement (C. B. Goulsbro) and Loch Acre (Brown) came home half a mile in 495. Miss Bridge (Winder) and Gold Spot (Mclnally) dashed over three furlongs in 3645. Both hit out ! pleasingly and are in good order for pending engagements, although a doubt exists as to whether or not Gold Spot will make the trip to Rotorua. j Foxscn’s Good Effort Foxsen (Brown), accompanied by Black Musk (Ensor), jumped away

| at the seven-furlong peg and was timed to run her last six furlongs in 1.16 2-5, and finished several lengths j clear of Black Musk. Foxsen is in splendid fettle just now and it will i not be on the score of condition it ; she fails to give of her best at Arawa Park. Kingcraft (C. B. Goulsbro) worked freely over a round but was not alter time. He is bearing a healthy appearance. lrilliarch (C. B. Goulsbro) and Bronze Bird (Meynell) ran home from the three-furlong peg in 37 4-ss. Ngawiri (Ensor) disclosed her customary dash when she brushed home from the five-furlong peg in 1.1, after cutting out her first couple of furlongs in 245. She should soon make amends. Young Paddon (Jones), having his first run along for some four months, surprised by leaving half a mile behind in 495. He has come in well and is in splendid order to enter on a further preparation. Glenbevan (Ensor) secured an early advantage over General Riske (Meynell) and after running his first three furlongs in 36s clocked 1.27 3-5 for seven furlongs, the final three being traversed in 37 3-5 s with Glenbevan still several lengths clear. This member of A. C. Jones’ string appears to be on the upgrade. The feature trial of tne morning was that of Gay Rosette (Ensor), who went once round in 1.52, time which has seldom been bettered on the No. 1 track. Gay Rosette is in the pink of condition and should further her winning account in the 1 months ahead. Riding Engagements j Riding engagements for the first day of the Rotorua meeting include: O. Mclnally.—Devon, Royal Melody. V. Gollop.—Karatoki, Forest Acre, Royal Son. Royal Jay. W. O. Ensor, Camilla, Black Musk, Glenbevan, Miss Te Koura. L. C.
