CLAUDELANDS TRACKS
TRIALS FOR EPSOM ALCAZAR HITS OUT OUR McKINNEY WELL (By “ Padlock ”) The course proper provided firm footing at Claudelands this mornmg when a number of horses engaged at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting were given their final workouts. Several interesting trials were recorded, although the programme was not an extensive one. Alcazar (Cockbill) was going well within himself throughout a mile and a-half in 3.44. He may soon make amends for recent disappointments. Blush Worthy (Vernall) led Guide Peter (Marquand) and Parrish Queen (Dunn) throughout a mile and aquarter in 2.57. Blush Worthy has been making good progress of late. Nawton Junior (Holmes) was always doing better than Calla Lily (Vernall) over a mile and a-quarter, -he final half-mile of which he ran in 1.10. Noble Prince (Oliver), a good track worker, was shading Katene (Dunn) and Tumble (Cuts) over the deciding stages of two miles run in 4.44, the •ast mile being traversed in 2.17 the final half 1.4. Both Katene and Tumble shaped in improved style. Our McKinney (Vernall) and Our Peggy (Smith) were associated over a mile and a-half, being timed over the final mile and a-quarter in 2.52. They ran the last half-mile in 1.6 4-5 and Our McKinney, who was holding her companion safely at the finish, would need only to strike a yielding track at Epsom to possess good prospects He seldom looked better. Sir Tony (Vernall), assisted by a maiden in C. Moran’s stable over the early part, negotiated two miles, in 5.5. He is in forward condition for racing.
