CHRISTMAS CHEER
PRESENTS FOR CHILDREN MR H. D. CARO’S GESTURE The traditional spirit of Christmas, with its round of gifts and seasonal cheer, was brought to the children at the Waikato Hospital and the Salvation Army Home, “The Nest,” yesterday. For the 18th year in succession, Mr H. D. Caro, Mayor ot Hamilton, sent parcels to every child. The first call that Father Christmas made was at the Sunshine Ward ot the Waikato Hospital, where he found about 25 children awaiting him. From the hospital the visitors went on to “The Nest,” where they were accorded a vociferous welcome by about 40 children who were assembled on the lawn to receive their gifts. The children were obviously delighted with the presents that Father Christmas brought them. They seemed almost loth to let their visitor depart but he finally managed his escape with the sound of the children’s excited farewells still ringing in his ears. For these children at least Christmas will again mean a season of joy and happiness, thanks to the kindly action of Mr Caro.
