ENJOYABLE DANCE The Oddfellows’ Hall, Ngaruawahia, presented an animated scene recently, when members of the Headquarters Sergeants’ mess of Hopu Hopu Camp, held a very enjoyable dance in order to return some of the hospitality they have received while in camp. Music was supplied by C. Taylor’s Band, and the master of ceremonies was Sergeant-Major Lodder. Appreciated items were given by Private Taylor. During the evening Major Seddon, Camp Commandant, and Captain Shepherd, Camp Adjutant, were present. Among those present were:—Mesdames A. G. Weld, violet velvet; A. W. Speirs, cerise taffeta; W. GIRL GUIDE FUNCTION The members of the Girl Guide Patrol in Ngaruawahia. entertained their parents and committee to an enjoyable social evening in the Returned Soldiers’ Hall, recently. Item? were given by Hilary Bunn (piano solo), Shirley Mills (sailor’s hornpipe), Thora McGifford (recitation), Hazel Brown (piano solo), Melva Goodwin (tap dancing), Melva Menzies (song), and Iris Griffin, Patsy Nelson, Mavis Smith and Barbara Kemp (song). The evening was spent in games and competitions, and after supper the president of the local committee, Mrs M. Loughnan, presented the trophies. The Kowhai Patrol won the cup for the most points during the year and the cup for the most improved guide was won by Hilarv Bunn Among those present were:—Mesdames M. Loughnan, A. Smith. D. Goodwin, S. J. Webb, G. B. Isdale, F. Hall, G. Marriott- J. D. Joy, Griffir, Mills, B. Bunn. Misses Collins and M. Rayner PARENTS’ DAY AT SCHOOL Parents’ day was held at the Ngaruawahia School on Wednesday afternoon. Rain marred the function slightly, but excellent exhibitions of drill were presented by the pupils, while the primer classes gave enjoyable singing and dancing items. Exhibitions of swimming in the school baths were also given by senior boys and girls. The prizes for the year were presented by the chairman of the School Committee. Mr J. R. Redpath, who congratulated the successful pupils and extended best wishes for the future to pupils who had finished their primary education. The prize-winners were:— Dux (boys), Edwin Smith, (girls) Hilary Bunn; domestic science, Hilary Bunn 1, Irene Zimmerman 2; woodwork, Joe Baker; best garden, Stuart Johnson; best Maori pupil, Para Soloman. The parents were entertained to afternoon tea by the senior pupils and wives of the members of the School Committee. Among the visitors were:—Mesdames F. Gillighan, F. Jackson. R. McFarlane, A.
