STRIKES DENOUNCED

AUSTRALIAN ACTION IMPROVING ARBITRATION (United Press Assn.—tiec. Tel. Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 31 The Advisory War Council has issued a unanimous statement denouncing industrial stoppages. It said that they are likely to imperil Australia. The statement declared that the Arbitration machinery should be improved to enable workers’ grievances to be settled promptly. The statement is regarded as of the greatest importance in view of the all-Party character of the Council. It is pointed out that the statement means that the Labour representatives in the Council have set their faces against strikes in war industries and that the Government representatives have committed themselves to early action, which may transform the arbitration system.
