NEAR BIGAMIST FINED (By Telegraph. —Press Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday "This man went to the brink of the precipice but did not go right over and commit bigamy,” pleaded Mr Noble on behalf of Dick Llewellyn Claridge, aged 36, who came before Mr Justice Fair in the Supreme Court for sentence on an admitted offence of having made a false statement under the Marriage Act. “Why did he do it? asked His Honour. Mr Noble said Claridge did evidently have the idea of committing bigamy, but later telephoned the Registrar and said he wanted the whole thing cancelled. No harm had been occasioned to the woman concerned. His Honour said that giving false information was always a matter of some seriousness. However. he thought this case would be met by a fine of £ls, in default one month’s imprisonment.
