GORDONTON FUNCTION
SOLDIERS FAREWELLED Although hurriedly' organised, the farewell to the four Gordonton men leaving with the next reinforcements, held in the Gordonton Hall recently, proved a great success. Dance music was voluntarily supplied by Mrs W. Mexted, Mrs W. J. Carswell and Messrs A. Boyd and W. Sharp. During the evening presentations were made to Privates N. O'Hearn. R. Foster and M. Sexton, when, on behalf of the residents, Mr C. S. Mexted asked each soldier to accept with I good wishes an eversharp pencil. Mrs |D. S. Riddell, president of the local jbranch of the Red Cross Society, Rtmded to each a hand-knitted pulllover with best wishes from the members. Private M. Sexton suitably expressed thanks and appreciation. I Reference was made to Mr and Mrs jw. O’Hearn, whose third and last son was fa rewelled that evening, one already being in England and one in Egypt. An appropriate note was created by by Miss Billie Carswell rendering “ Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye,” and musical honours were accorded the guests of the evening.
