HOUSING PROGRESS
SITES TRANSFORMED NEEDS OF HAMILTON BUILDING IN SEVERAL AREAS The former barren sites at Hayes Paddock, Richmond Estate, and areas in the vicinity of Forest Lake Road and Norton Road have been transformed under State housing schemes in Hamilton into rows of modern homes. The most extensive building is at Hayes Paddock, where there are now 24 completed units and 156 in the course of construction. On March 27, the figures for this area were 15 completed units and 80 in the course of construction. Recalling former Governors of New Zealand are the names which have been bestowed upon some of the roads and terraces laid down in the Hayes Paddock area. Once covered in fern and bracken, the site today presents an impressive picture. On the average basis of three persons to a house it will be seen that 72 persons have been provided homes in this area, and homes under construction, many of which will be completed by the end of the year, will accommodate a further 468 persons. Units In Other Areas At Richmond Estate 36 units have been completed, providing accommodation for approximately 108 persons, while in the course of construction are nine units. Twentynine units have been erected in the Forest Lake area, with five at present under construction. In the Norton Road area 23 units have been erected. Thus the number of units erected in Hamilton to date is 112, accommodating 336 persons. With the 170 additional units under construction, approximately 850 Hamilton people will have been provided homes.
