VALUABLE RECORDS LOST PUBLIC LIBRARY SUFFERS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) GORE, Friday Fire early this morning extensively damaged the Mataura Borough Council Chambers and the Coronation Hall. The brigade faced a difficult task owing to the fire having spread from the rear of the building to the ceiling, and an hour elapsed before the flames were subdued. The Public Library of 2000 books suffered through fire, smoke and water, as also did the reading room. Valuable photographic records were destroyed, but the main office escaped lightly. The contents of the strongroom and the office records are intact. The insurance is £IOOO on building and furnishings in the Standard office. ___
