DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS (Special to Times) OTOROHANGA, Thursday. A highly satisfactory financial position and increasing membership were reported at the annual meeting -of the Otorohanga Defence Rifle Club. The election of offlrers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr A. J. McC ready; president. Mr G. W. L. Palmer; deputy-president. Mr F. !.. Thomas; vice-presidents, MessrJ. 11. Graham. F. A. Fowler. D. V. Dickens. K. P. McDonald, and Mrs 11. E. Lawrence; auditor, Mr E. R. Haycock; secretary and treasurer, Mr JL C. Murphy; range officers, Messrs G. W. L. Palmer. E. A. Southall; trench officers, Messrs F. L. Thomas and L.Peake; handicappers, Messrs G. W. L. Palmer and F. L. Thomas; coaches, Messrs A. warren, G. W. L. Palmer and E. A. Southall. The total net profits of the annual ball (£l4) were donated to patriotic purposes. SEWERAGE SCHEME DELAY A further delay in the commencement of the Otorohanga sewerage scheme was caused by the Government requiring the urgent use or the contractor and his stall’, also the piping, Tor the Waiouru military camp. At football the Otorohanga A team defeated Te Awamutu A by 9 points to 3. Otorohanga also won the intermediate A game by 14 to 8. At basketball Otorohanga A lost to Te Awamutu 15-18, drew in tile B division 17-17, and won the Intermediate A game 15-14. Later the visitors’ A football team won a basketball contest by 3 goals to 2. GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS Championship matches played on the Otorohanga golf links resulted as follows: Senior.—Orinsby beat Jackson 1 up, J. M. Quin beat Taylor 4 and 3, Mexted beat Rhodes 4 and 3, Thompson beat Llddy 4 and 3. Junior.—Lee beat Burton 1 up, Lear McWha 2 up. Otorohanga players defeated the visiting team rrom the Te Kuitl club by a good margin. In a following inter-club match Te Kuitl won by 12 gajnes to 7. WOMEN’B HOCKEY OTOROHANGA GIRL’S SUCCESS For the second season Miss Jean Cameron, of the Otorohanga Ladies’ Hockey Club, has earned the distinction or being selected to represent the Auckland province. She has left to Join the side at Auckland Tor 10 days’ training, and to contest inter-provincial matches. The following Is the selected Otorohanga team to play Te Awamutu on Saturday: Mesdames Harris, Blackett, 'Misses C. Hall, R. Byrnes, G. Meredith, A. Hunter, D. Rattray, J. Smith, J. Rogers and O. Smith. CLAY BIRD TOURNAMENT Organised by the Returned ‘Soldiers’ Association, a successful special clay-bird shooting tournament was held on the Otorohanga Island Reserve during the week-end
