Its strength has been greatly increased since the war, about 20 ships, most of them destroyers, havjng been completed. Present strength is: Battleships, nine: Dunkerque. Strasbourg, Jean Bart, Richelieu (modern); Bretagne, Provence and Lorraine (built 1913): Courbet (1911); Paris (1912). Aircraft carrier: One. Bearn (laid down 1914, launched 1920, refitted 1927). Seaplane carrier: One. Commandant Teste. Cruisers: 19. Destroyers, 57. Submarines. 80: Torpedo boats, 13. Mine layers. 2. France also has a large number of escort patrol vessels and submarine chasers.
