MOCK BATTLE
REALISTIC MANOEUVRES HIGH SCHOOL CADETS Culminating a week of military training, the cadcrts of the Hamilton High School staged a mock battle at the school grounds today, when some of the realism of infantry tactics were captured by the boys. One section of the school cadet corps formed the attacking troops against the remaining cadets who were on the defensive. The attack developed from the high ground behind the school baths and although the area was not ideally suited to the manoeuvres, some of the work carried out revealed that the boys had acquired valuable knowledge as a result of the week’s training. With blank ammunition being fired from many of the rifles, and drums being used to give the impression of the staccato rattle of machine-guns, the “show” was coloured with realism as sections took cover here, and advanced there, into the defenders who were under cover. Army Department officers observed the mock battle and at the conclusion of the manoeuvres Mayor S. E. Senior, officer commanding the school cadets, addressed the cadets, giving instructive criticism of the work.
This afternoon platoon drill competitions were held.
